XC COMPETITION
This afternoon, 30 children ventured to Budmouth Academy to participate in a Cross-Country competition. This is the most we have ever taken to just one event and the children were VERY excited…
The children were split into the following categories:
-Y3/4 Girls
-Y3/4 Boys
Y5/6 Girls
Y5/6 Boys
Children received points based on the position they came in the race (so the lower the score, the better). This is by FAR the hardest sports event of the year. The children need to be resilient and determined not only to do well but to simply finish the race due to the distance they are required to run! What was really pleasing to witness this afternoon were the amount of children supporting each other before, during and after the events. It truly showed what a reciprocal bunch Southill are.
Overall, every single child completed the race which is an achievement in itself. In terms of individual performance, I would like to mention Grace T who finished 8th out of over 60 children, Max in Year 4 and Iyla in Year 5 who both finished 10th in their events and also Leo who finished 3rd out of over 60 children! I would also like to give a special mention to Bella who kindly agreed to run in the Year 5/6 event (which is slightly longer) and she did remarkably well! After all the points were counted and verified, we were delighted to learn that Year 3/4 boys and the Year 5/6 boys came away with trophies for both finishing 2nd overall in their categories. This wasn’t easy as there were a whopping 10 teams competing overall!
A great afternoon indeed. A huge well done to all of the children who participated today. You definitely deserve to put your feet up tonight…
I would also like to say a quick thank you to Mrs. Murray who very kindly helped keep the children safe this afternoon and wrote down all the race positions all afternoon to ensure Southill were organised and the children were rewarded for their efforts.
