Year 4 Will Remember Them…
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Today, the children paid their respects to those who died fighting during World War 1. We watched a live assembly which highlighted the many ways people are able to pay their respects to those who fought and fell during the war. At 11.00am, the children stood and participated in a 2-minute silence, reflecting on the struggles that people go through during times of crisis.
In the afternoon, the children created a piece of artwork using the poppy for inspiration. Some children created eye-catching posters displaying the poppy and facts about Armistice Day that they had learnt from the assembly in the morning. Some children looked at the infamous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and used watercolors to paint a picture of a poppy over the top of the very poignant poem. They then ripped the edges and stuck this poem onto black card to make it really stand out.
I am very proud of the children’s maturity and reflectiveness today. We will remember them…
Every art work is amazing!! 😍😍Have a great weekend💜💜
