You Spin Me Right Round…
Today, we began a new unit of work in maths all about shape and movement. We started by looking at a compass and identifying what the letters stand for. After that, we looked at the way in which we can turn clockwise and anti-clockwise when rotating. We investigated how to complete a quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn and a full rotation. We also linked this to angles and explored how much of a rotation we had completed.
The children were asked to complete turns based on instructions and were then required to tell me which way they were facing. It was great seeing the children learn by physically carrying out the instruction which they then applied to a journal task. To conclude, the children then answered a broad range of mathematical problems linked to rotation, position and movement. It was a really enjoyable and memorable maths lesson indeed!
