Why teach Art & Design?

At Southill Primary School, we recognize the significance of art education in fostering holistic development and unleashing the creative potential within each child. Our commitment to teaching art extends beyond the confines of a classroom, aiming to inspire a lifelong appreciation for creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking.

Through our comprehensive art curriculum, we strive to nurture not only artistic skills but also to cultivate a sense of curiosity, resilience, and open-mindedness. Art provides a unique platform for students to explore their emotions, discover their identity, and communicate their thoughts in a visual language. It encourages them to think innovatively, problem-solve, and approach challenges with a creative mindset; skills which can then be applied to other areas of learning.

The impact of our art education is evident in the vibrant and diverse artworks created by our students, reflecting their individuality and fostering a sense of pride in their accomplishments. We believe that exposure to art enhances cognitive abilities, improves fine motor skills, and contributes to a well-rounded education.

Furthermore, our art program at Southill Primary School serves as a catalyst for building a positive school culture, fostering collaboration, and promoting inclusivity. Art transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, providing a universal language that enables our students to connect with each other and the wider community.
