Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Southill Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education in which every child is supported to participate, achieve and thrive.

We recognise that children have different strengths and needs and that some pupils may require additional or different support at different points during their time at school.

We work closely with children, parents and carers, staff and external professionals to identify needs early, remove barriers to learning and ensure appropriate support is in place.

Our SENDCo

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator is Shaheena Yusuf.

Shaheena works closely with senior leaders, governors, teachers, support staff, parents, carers and external professionals to coordinate SEND provision across the school.

The Role of Our SENDCo

Our SENDCo:

oversees the school's SEND provision
maintains the school's SEND register
supports staff to identify and meet pupils' individual needs
advises staff on appropriate provision, adaptations and support
works with parents and carers
liaises with external professionals and services
coordinates support plans and reviews
contributes to Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment and plan processes
works with school leaders and governors to develop inclusive practice across the school

Dorset Council's Local Offer provides information about services and support available to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families.

Accessibility

We are committed to removing barriers to participation and ensuring disabled pupils are able to access school life as fully as possible.

We are committed to supporting pupils with medical conditions so that they can participate fully in school life.

Working with Families

Parents and carers know their children best and are important partners in supporting children with SEND.

If you have concerns about your child's learning, development or wellbeing, we encourage you to speak to their class teacher in the first instance. You can also contact our SENDCo if you would like further advice or support.
