Ahoy Mateys! Year 1 Become Pirate Dancers in PE
This term in Year 1 PE, we’ve been diving into the world of dance — and what better theme than pirates? Ahoy mateys! The children have truly embraced their inner pirates, bringing fantastic energy, imagination, and lots of laughter to every session.
We’ve been learning all about rhythm and how dancers use the number eight to keep a steady beat. The children have impressed us with how quickly they’ve picked this up, moving in time and working together to stay on the beat like a well-trained pirate crew.
Our pirate adventures have taken us through all sorts of exciting movements. We’ve:
-
Rowed our pirate boats across stormy seas
-
Walked the plank with big dramatic steps
-
Dodged and escaped sharks lurking in the deep blue
One of the children’s favourite activities has definitely been our shark-chasing game — nothing gets the class moving faster than a hungry shark on their tail!
This week, the hall wasn’t free for our PE lesson, so we bravely took our pirate dancing outside. But did that stop our fearless crew? Of course not! The children adapted brilliantly and brought just as much enthusiasm to the playground as they do indoors.
We’ve had a wonderful time swashbuckling through our dance topic, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us. Yo-ho-ho — have a grrrrreat weekend!
