Building and Bee-Bots!
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to the term and have jumped straight into our exciting, new learning!
This week, we started reading our new book: Iggy Peck, Architect. We discussed what types of materials would be best to build a building, and decided that paper would definitely not work! To help them feel like real architects, we set out a range of materials including cardboard, toilet rolls, tape, Lego, building blocks and Polydron. Their challenge was to build the strongest and tallest tower they could! After selecting their preferred materials, the children worked in team and every group approached the challenge differently, with no two buildings being the same!
In Computing, we have also started the fun topic of Moving a Robot! This week, the children were introduced to Bee-Bots, and they were an instant hit! The classroom was full of excitement as the children worked out how to give the robots commands to make them move. There were lots of giggles, a few squeals of delight, and even some naughty Bee-Bots that seemed to do the exact opposite of what they were told! Lots of children had to stop them falling off the tables and they seemed to love watching them bump into stuff!
It has been a brilliant week and we are really looking forward to all the learning still to come!
