From octopuses to old toys!
What a wonderful day we’ve had in Year 1- from creative crafting to stepping back in time!
We began our morning by diving into our new book, Leo and the Octopus. The children love learning about octopuses! They got hands-on and made their very own octopuses using toilet rolls. Each octopus came complete with a special tag where the children wrote an interesting octopus fact. Did you know they have three hearts and that they use their arms to taste and touch?!
Then came the afternoon and what a super fun one it was!
We spent time exploring toys from the past, and the classroom was full of curiosity and fascination. The children had the chance to look at—and play with—an amazing collection of old toys, including:
-
• Vintage Sindy dolls with outfit changes, a bedroom set, and even a horse
-
• Tiddlywinks
-
• Marbles
-
• A traditional baby rattle
-
• An old pram and baby dolls
-
• An old baton
-
• A wooden pencil case
-
• A retro camera
-
• A charming music box
-
And so much more!
Even though the toys were old, the children still loved playing with them, which was so lovely to see. They were so engaged, thoughtful, and enthusiastic throughout the whole lesson- I was so proud of them.
A huge thank you to everyone who kindly brought in old toys for us to explore—your contributions made the afternoon extra special.
What a fantastic day of learning, imagination, and fun for our Year 1s!
