As we come to the end of half term, we wanted to share with you one of the highlights of our school calendar – our 2%er Assembly!
What is a 2%er?
At Southill Primary, we believe in celebrating children who consistently go above and beyond. A 2%er is someone who always does it better than they have to – those wonderful children who put in that extra effort, kindness, and dedication in everything they do.
This week, we gathered as a whole school to recognise and celebrate our 2%ers. These are the children who:
- Show kindness without being asked – holding doors open, helping a friend who's struggling, or including someone who's on their own
- Take pride in their work – adding extra detail to their writing, presenting their work beautifully, or checking their answers carefully
- Demonstrate excellent learning attitudes – asking thoughtful questions, persevering when things are tricky, or helping others understand
- Go the extra mile – tidying up without being reminded, offering to help their teacher, or showing responsibility around school
Why We Celebrate 2%ers
We know that success isn't just about natural ability – it's about effort, attitude, and character. By celebrating our 2%ers, we're showing all our children that:
- Effort matters – going that extra mile makes a real difference
- Small actions count – kindness and consideration don't go unnoticed
- Everyone can be a 2%er – it's about choices we make every day, not about being the 'best'
The Ripple Effect
What's truly wonderful is seeing how celebrating 2%ers inspires others. When children see their peers being recognised for their extra effort and kindness, it encourages them to do the same. It creates a positive culture where everyone strives to be their best self.
At Home
You can support the 2%er mindset at home by:
- Noticing and praising when your child does something better than they have to
- Encouraging them to help out without being asked
- Talking about the satisfaction that comes from doing your best
- Modelling 2%er behaviour yourself!
A Heartfelt Thank You
We are incredibly proud of all the children who were celebrated in our assembly this half term, and equally proud of every child at Southill Primary who shows 2%er qualities every day. They truly are amazing, and they inspire us as staff to be 2%ers too!
