Leila and the Blue Fox
Our writing topic for this half term is based on a wonderful book called 'Leila and the Blue Fox'. The story follows Leila, a child who had to flee Syria when she was very young and settle in London, but her Mother left her living with her aunt as she moved to Norway to study arctic animals. Leila goes on a trip to Norway to visit her mother, and joins her on an expedition to study the very rare and fascinating Blue Arctic Fox. In parallel to this, we follow the blue Arctic fox as it embarks on a long migration across the Arctic circle.
Throughout this engaging unit of writing, Year 6 are combining a lot of skills such as relative clauses and pronouns, formal and informal language, emotive adjectives, advanced sentence structure with devices such as dashes, and modal verbs. They are producing fact files, diary entries, letters and eventually they will write a large blog from Leila's point of view. Well done, year 6!
