Reception Maths & Learning Highlights 🌟

This week in Reception, the children have been developing their understanding of subitising and accurate counting up to 10. They confidently put their learning into practice by creating their own games, making number lines and matching dots to complete heart shapes – a lovely link as we get ready for Valentine’s Day later this month ❤️.

The children also used wooden logs to build number lines outdoors, practising careful balancing as they moved along them. Using loose parts, such as buttons, they counted out and matched the correct number of buttons to each numbered log, showing great concentration and number recognition.

Our vet role-play area has been very busy again this week! The children have enjoyed caring for the animals and writing out prescriptions, developing both their imaginative play and early writing skills.

Some children took on a big challenge by sorting lots of different objects and matching them to their initial sounds – fantastic phonics work!
