Mysterious Magnets!

Today the children were introduced to a new topic within our design and Technology unit. It links perfectly with the science unit we have just completed on forces and magnets and also links perfectly with the history topic that we will be starting after half term - Ancient Egypt!

The children will be creating stable and working designs that will hide treasure or open a door mysteriously using the power of magnets! These designs will incorporate pyramids, hieroglyphics and pharaohs to name a few. Today to fire up the topic the children created mazes on their whiteboards and whilst holding a magnet underneath their board they moved a paperclip through the maze. Even though they knew how it worked, they were still amazed that it could be moved without it being touched!
