Our Hat-Tastic Week!

This week, we began our exciting new book, I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen! The children have absolutely loved getting stuck into this funny and mysterious story.

On Monday, our classroom was full of hats — small hats, fluffy hats, colourful hats, patterned hats… there were hats everywhere! The children had a wonderful time trying them all on and talking about them. We asked lots of questions to get our thinking hats on (literally!). Some examples were:

  • Were the hats colourful or plain?
  • Did they have any patterns or decorations?
  • Would you wear this hat in Summer or Winter?

This led to some brilliant discussions, and the children used lots of great describing words.

By Friday, we had read the whole story together and everyone could recall what had happened — from the bear’s search to the naughty ending! To finish off our week, we decided to create our very own “I Want My Hat Back” rap! 🎵

The children worked together to come up with repetitive lines and fun ideas from the story. It was fantastic to see how much they remembered and the classroom was full of laughter and creativity.

It has been a great first week back in Autumn 2! Well done, Year 1! ☺️
