Shootin' Hoops at Atlantic Academy

Today, ten enthusiastic Year 6 pupils headed up to the dizzy heights of Portland to take part in an exciting basketball workshop at Atlantic Academy. The purpose of the afternoon was not only to develop key basketball skills but also to give children the chance to mix, collaborate and compete alongside pupils from other local primary schools.

Throughout the session, the children were put through their paces by skilled coaches who guided them through a variety of fast-paced drills. They practised the fundamentals of the game, including confident dribbling, maintaining possession under pressure, accurate passing, sharp shooting and effective intercepting. It was brilliant to see their teamwork, determination and resilience grow with every activity.

These skills will stand the group in excellent stead as we look ahead to the upcoming basketball tournament in a few months’ time, where some of today’s participants will have the opportunity to represent Southill.

The afternoon was filled with laughter, energy and impressive progress. A huge thank you to everyone who kindly offered me a lift back down from the top of Portland—and an extra special thanks to Vicki, who unfortunately drew the short straw and ended up taking me all the way back to Southill!
