The Exciting Part-Whole Model

This week, we started a new topic in maths all about addition and subtraction within 10. The children have been learning about the part-whole model, which helps them understand how numbers can be split into different parts.

To make this easier to understand, we did a practical activity using 10 counters. The children worked in pairs and had to split the 10 counters into different parts. For example, some pairs split them into 6 and 4, others into 7 and 3, and so on. It was great to see them exploring all the different ways to make 10.

The children worked really well together, sharing ideas and helping each other. It was lovely to see their teamwork and how much fun they had learning with the counters.

We’re looking forward to continuing this topic and helping the children get more confident with addition and subtraction. They have done so well this week! Well done everyone!
