Well...Hello there Year 5!?
It was so lovely to see the children looking so dappa as I came into class today. Yes, you heard that right... I was ever so slightly later into school as it was my eldest child's very first day!
After getting well-acquainted with new rules and routines, the children began by drawing themselves as Bitmoji characters. They flicked through several examples for inspiration and then used these to create their own. I must say, they look excellent and will be displayed around our classroom door so that anyone who crosses the threshold can see what a happy and artistic class Year 5 are.
Next, we wrote our class charter together, discussing what will make this an epic year. We all agreed that we would do our utmost to be THE BEST CLASS IN THE SCHOOL!
The children were then given graffiti bookmarks to decorate. Tomorrow, they will choose their new school books and their bookmarks will be laminated and ready for action.
In the afternoon, we took part in some brilliant Stormbreak activities linked to Self-Worth. We played an interactive game of rock, paper, scissors and (my favourite activity of the day) classroom compliments. Each child was given a piece of paper with a classmate’s name at the top and asked to write a compliment anonymously. After a minute, the papers were swapped to the right (a bit like a conveyor belt) so that they made their way around the room. By the end, everybody had an entire page of compliments which they were beaming to receive and, in some cases, eager to share.
To make the most of the sunshine at the end of the day, and to ease the children back into school gently after seven weeks of wearing pyjamas and crocs, we went outside for an afternoon play.
I hope they have all come home having had a lovely first day back and that they are excited to do it all again tomorrow. Well done, everybody!
