Attendance - Every day counts!

Every Day Counts: Why Attendance Matters at Southill Primary

At Southill Primary, we want every child to have the very best start in life. One of the simplest but most important ways you can support your child is by making sure they attend school every day, on time.

Why is good attendance so important?

  • Learning builds day by day: Each lesson and activity is a building block for your child’s knowledge and skills. When children are in school regularly, they don’t miss out on key concepts and experiences.
  • Friendships and confidence: Coming to school every day helps children develop friendships, build confidence and feel part of our community.
  • Lifelong habits: Good attendance and punctuality set up positive routines that will help your child succeed now and in the future.

What about being late?

Arriving late can mean missing out on the important start-of-day routines. Even being a few minutes late each day adds up to hours of lost learning over a term!

Holidays in term time

We understand that family time is precious. However, taking holidays during term time disrupts your child’s learning and can make it hard for them to catch up. The law states that headteachers can only authorise term-time leave in exceptional circumstances. Please help us give your child the best chance by booking family holidays outside of term time.

How we can work together

  • Let us know if your child is unwell: If your child can’t attend school, please let the office know as soon as possible.
  • Talk to us about challenges: If you’re having difficulties with attendance or punctuality, we’re here to help. We can work with you to find solutions.

Together, we can help every child at Southill Primary School achieve their very best—every day counts!

If you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
