Champions Again! Southill Dominate Area Basketball Tournament

This afternoon a squad of seven Year 6 pupils represented Southill in a basketball tournament against four other local primary schools. The games were fast paced and full of energy, demanding teamwork, communication and determination from every player on the court.

After sharing the trophy with Bincombe Valley last year, the team arrived determined to keep hold of it and bring it back to Southill.

Each match lasted eight minutes and every team played one another twice. The overall winners would be the team with the most victories across the tournament.

Here is how the first round of matches unfolded:

Southill 5 – 0 Bincombe ✅ Win
Filip x2
Toby x2
Gurraag x1

Southill 7 – 0 Conifers ✅ Win
Toby x5
Filip x1
Eli x1

Southill 6 – 0 Wyke Regis ✅ Win
Skyla x1
Eli x1
Toby x4

Southill 9 – 0 Atlantic Academy ✅ Win
Eli x4
Skyla x3
Eleanor x1
Gurraag x1

By the halfway stage Southill had scored a huge number of goals and, even more impressively, had not conceded a single one. The teamwork, organisation in attack and defence and sheer determination from the whole squad were outstanding.

However the team knew there was still work to do. Playing the schools again would be tougher as opponents now knew just how strong Southill were.

The second round of matches brought more impressive performances.

Southill 2 – 0 Bincombe ✅ Win
Skyla x2

Southill 4 – 0 Conifers ✅ Win
Toby x4

Southill 0 – 0 Wyke Regis 🤝 Draw

Southill 9 – 0 Atlantic Academy ✅ Win
Eleanor x1
Toby x2
Eli x4
Filip x1
Gurraag x1

The final results say it all. Southill won seven matches and drew one, all while conceding zero goals across the entire tournament. An incredible defensive effort alongside some brilliant attacking play.

Southill were crowned area champions, a fantastic achievement for the team.

A special mention goes to Freddie who, despite not scoring himself, showed outstanding unselfishness with his movement and passing. He created many of the opportunities that led to our goals and was a key part of the team’s success.

Every player represented Southill with passion, enthusiasm and grit. Their attitude throughout the afternoon was excellent and they should be extremely proud of themselves.

Another trophy returns to the Southill cabinet. 🏆
