We’re absolutely delighted to announce the opening of our brand-new sensory garden at Southill Primary, thoughtfully designed to enrich our children’s learning environment and spark their curiosity about the natural world.
Created by Sheena - a talented gardener and dedicated parent at our school - this beautiful garden is a sanctuary where nature and creativity come together. Every element has been carefully chosen to stimulate the senses in a safe, engaging way, giving all our children the opportunity to explore, discover and learn.
What’s in the Sensory Garden?
There’s so much for the children to enjoy and investigate, including:
- Musical instruments that invite children to experiment with sound and rhythm
- Aromatic herbs for children to touch and smell
- A variety of textures to explore, from soft grasses to smooth stones
- Colourful plants and flowers that attract pollinators and inspire creativity
The garden is more than just a place for sensory exploration - it’s also an outdoor classroom where lessons can come alive in the fresh air and natural beauty. We’re excited to use this space for creative learning, science investigations, storytelling and quiet reflection.
Thank you Sheena!
We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sheena for her incredible dedication, creativity and hard work in bringing this special space to life. Her passion and commitment have transformed our vision into a vibrant, welcoming garden that will benefit our children for years to come. Thank you, Sheena, for making such a wonderful difference to our school community.
Get Involved!
We warmly invite all Southill Primary parents and children to visit and enjoy the sensory garden. It’s the perfect spot to observe, interact and learn together. Maybe pop in and enjoy your ice cream on Friday.
If you’d like to support the maintenance of our garden - perhaps by popping in to pull up a few weeds, or if you know someone who might be interested in helping - we’d love to hear from you! Your support will help us keep this special space looking beautiful and thriving for everyone to enjoy.
We can’t wait to see the joy and wonder this new garden brings to our children every day.
