Shapes, singing and Christmas creations!
We’ve had such a busy week in Year 1!
In maths, we’ve been exploring 2D and 3D shapes by making all sorts of patterns and talking about what makes shapes the same or different. The children have been practising naming the shapes, spotting them in repeating patterns, and using them to make their own patterns!
In writing, we wrapped up our work on the much-loved story I Want My Hat Back. The children did a fantastic job diving into the characters’ thoughts and feelings. The ending sparked lots of brilliant discussion—could we believe Bear, or was Rabbit telling the truth after all? We will never know…
We’ve also been doing lots of lovely singing as we get ready for our nativity. The classroom has been full of music, actions, and excitement. The children are working so hard, and we can’t wait to share their performance with you soon!
To finish the week, we got properly festive by making our very own Christmas decorations. Using cardboard, string, foil, and felt tips, the children created stunning stained-glass style baubles and Christmas trees. First, we arranged and glued string onto the cardboard in different shapes. Then we carefully placed foil over the top and smoothed it down so the raised patterns shone through. Finally, we coloured in the shapes, creating beautiful, bright designs that shimmer and shine. They look magical!
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
