X Country Competition at Conifers

Storm Benjamin was not going to stop Southill Primary School from giving their all at the Cross Country event at Conifers today. Children from Years 3, 5 and 6 took part in a challenging team competition, each completing a full lap of the entire field and playground before tagging in their teammate. Once all four runners had finished their laps, the first three teams back were crowned the winners.

With ten primary schools competing in each year group and the blustery, rain-soaked weather making it difficult to catch their breath, our children had to show not only physical strength but also true mental toughness. They dug deep, showed resilience and ran with real Southill spirit.

Here’s how each team got on:

  • Year 3 – Bronze Medal! (3rd place out of 10)

  • Year 5 – 4th place (narrowly missing out on a medal)

  • Year 6 – 6th place (against extremely tough competition)

Our twelve athletes were simply incredible. The conditions were harsh and cross country running is one of the most demanding sports there is, yet not one Southill runner stopped. Every single child kept going, showing grit, determination and teamwork from start to finish. We could not be prouder.

A huge thank you to Mr Lyons from Conifers for organising such a well-run event. Thank you also to Sophie Banham and Mrs Wallis for kindly helping to transport the children, and to Mr Frampton for braving the wind and rain to capture the magic on camera.

What a day of effort, energy and pride for Southill Primary!
