Science

The important thing is to never stop questioning.
- Albert Einstein

Why teach Science?

At Southill Primary, our Bright Futures Science curriculum ignites curiosity, wonder and a lifelong passion for discovery. We want our children to think and work like scientists - asking questions, making predictions, testing ideas and drawing evidence-based conclusions about the world around them.

Through a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum, pupils develop a secure understanding of key scientific concepts and the skills to apply them in real-life contexts. Our curriculum builds progressively from the early foundations of exploration and observation in the EYFS to sophisticated enquiry and reasoning by the end of Year 6.

We believe that Science should be hands-on, purposeful and connected to our local environment here in Dorset - from exploring our coastline and wildlife to understanding sustainability and our impact on the planet.

By the time children leave Southill, they are confident, curious and critical thinkers who understand how science shapes our past, present and future. They leave with the enthusiasm, vocabulary and investigative skills to continue exploring the wonders of the world with confidence and awe.
