A Blooming Brilliant Afternoon
As we came to the end of our Year 1 science learning, we gave our plants a brand-new home! We first started growing them during our exciting trip to Kingston Maurward, but after spending some time in our classroom, they were beginning to look a little worse for wear. So, it was time for them to make the big leap into the great outdoors!
We got stuck into the planting by exploring the different textures of the soil. There were lots of muddy fingers and plenty of smiles as we filled our larger planter. We planted our seedlings in their toilet roll plant pots, which are biodegradable and will gradually disintegrate into the soil over time, helping our plants continue to grow.
Once everything was planted, it was time for a well-earned drink! We all took turns carefully watering the plants, making sure each one had just the right amount. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that, with more space to grow and plenty of fresh air, our plants will soon perk up and thrive instead of looking a little droopy!
To finish our lovely afternoon, we got creative with some outdoor art. Using chalk, we worked in pairs to draw around each other and create life-sized portraits, decorating the outlines with colourful designs. We even persuaded our wonderful work experience student to join in the fun!
It was a fantastic way to round off our science learning - combining teamwork, creativity and a chance to care for the living things we have nurtured throughout the term. What a wonderful afternoon we had!
