A Volley Good Afternoon Indeed!
This afternoon at Summer Sports Club, we began learning the fast-paced and action-packed game of volleyball. We started by practising two key skills: the controlled dig and set, working carefully with partners to develop accuracy and control before introducing the net.
Once the net was up, the children quickly rose to the challenge. They worked on their open-palm serves, sending the ball confidently over the net, before progressing to rallies and returning shots to their opponents. Before long, both sides were working together like a well-oiled machine! The teamwork, communication and encouragement on display were truly impressive.
To finish the session, we played a cracking game called Ghost. One player served the ball over the net, and the player at the front of the opposing line had to return it using a dig, set or smash. If they failed to do so, they became a ghost! Ghosts moved to the opposite side of the net and had to remain perfectly statue-still. However, all was not lost-if a ghost managed to catch someone's ball, they were brought back to life and could rejoin the game.
It was a thrilling, energetic and hugely enjoyable way to end the afternoon. The pictures (and the occasional blurry volleyball!) simply do not do justice to the amount of fun we all had.
Only a few more weeks of Summer Sports Club remain now. Just a reminder that there will be no club next week, as Year 6 will be far too busy having an amazing time in St Ives!
