Abstract Art, Trumpets, and Fun: Year 1’s Festival Afternoon
Year 1 had an absolutely magical afternoon yesterday, thanks to a very special visit from Rocca, who works with B-Side. For those who don’t know, B-Side is a fantastic non-profit arts organization based on the Isle of Portland, famous for producing an annual, internationally recognized contemporary arts festival. And we were lucky enough to get a taste of that creativity right here in our classroom!
The children were so excited to tell Rocca all about what they had been learning about abstract art and the incredible artist Hilma af Klint. They shared their knowledge with confidence, and Rocca was impressed!
Then the fun really began. Rocca brought in huge card sheets, and the children dived straight into creating their own abstract masterpieces. Inspired by their feelings and Hilma af Klint’s work, they experimented with paint, pens, ribbons, coloured and shiny paper, and even pom-poms. The results were colourful, unique, and full of imagination!
But the excitement didn’t stop there! To bring our mini festival to life, the children made trumpets and designed dazzling outfits, including capes and headpieces. The classroom turned into a whirlwind of colour, sound, and joy. Rocca kept the energy high, encouraging everyone and making the children feel proud of what they had achieved.
Finally, it was time to show off all their hard work in our singing assembly. With trumpets in hand and vibrant outfits on display, the children beamed with pride as they presented their creations. The assembly was full of fun, music, and colour. A real celebration of creativity!
It was an afternoon full of laughter, learning, and artistic expression. Year 1 had so much fun, and it was truly a day to remember. Huge thanks to Rocca for bringing such inspiring art into our school!
