Advent Preparation!

Reception’s Advent Adventure at Emmanuel Church

Today, Reception enjoyed a wonderful visit to our local church—Emmanuel Church—where they took part in a special session all about the true meaning of waiting during Advent.

We were welcomed by members of the church who helped the children explore why Christians mark Advent day by day, often using Advent calendars. To the children’s great surprise, Antony, one of the church helpers, dramatically tore open his Advent calendar and ate every single chocolate at once! Gasps filled the room as Reception immediately jumped in to tell him he needed to wait! This playful moment sparked lots of brilliant discussion about patience and anticipation.

The children then enjoyed some Advent-themed games, including a festive twist on What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?—this time with a star instead of a wolf! Laughter and excitement filled the hall as everyone joined in.

We finished our visit with a beautiful photo opportunity in the nativity scene next to the manger. The manger was intentionally left empty, symbolising December as a time of waiting for the birth of baby Jesus, according to Christian belief.

Throughout the entire trip, the children behaved impeccably. We couldn’t be prouder of how respectfully and enthusiastically they engaged with the activities.

A huge thank you to Emmanuel Church for such a thoughtful and memorable experience!
