Anansi the spider - traditional African tale!

Reception Become Anansi Experts! 🕷️
The Reception children have been fully immersed in the traditional African tale Anansi the Spider. Over the week, they have enjoyed learning about Anansi and discovering how he was rescued by his six sons in this exciting and memorable story.
Today, the children became creative problem-solvers as they began designing a special leaflet for tourists visiting the Safari Hut. Their task was to help visitors understand how to look after Anansi if they happened to find him!
The children used their prior knowledge brilliantly, confidently sharing that spiders have eight legs. Working collaboratively, they explored how these legs are arranged and discovered that four legs on each side was the correct formation. It was wonderful to see their teamwork and discussion skills in action.
Linking our learning to our Pet Detectives topic, we then thought carefully about what a spider might need to stay happy and healthy. The children had some fantastic ideas about how to care for Anansi, from giving him a safe home to making sure he had food and water. They recorded their thoughts on whiteboards and impressed us with their creativity and thoughtful suggestions.
We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork and growing understanding as they continue their learning journey through stories and discovery!
