BLP, Buddies and BLUEY!?

This afternoon, we continued our PSHE learning by brushing up on our Learning Powers. We reintroduced Ninja Nutmeg, Captain Shelby, Sir Owlington and Agent Buzzbee to the class, unpicking what they represent and how important it is to follow in their footsteps when completing learning tasks.

When we develop our ability to be resilient, reflective, resourceful and reciprocal, we are truly prepared for learning!

In order to put the children's Learning Powers to the test, we split them into four groups, with each group focusing on a different area. Four children were chosen to dress up as the characters to really hammer home the purpose of each task. Here is what each group got up to...

Resilience

In Captain Shelby's group, the children were shown a path drawn in chalk on the playground. They were then blindfolded and partnered up with someone who had to direct them safely to the end. The catch? If they stepped on the line or outside of it, they had to go all the way back to the beginning! This certainly put their resilience to the test.

Reflectiveness

Children were given paper and markers, with their task being to work in pairs to make a paper aeroplane and fly it. Wherever it landed, they placed a marker down. Using the power of reflectiveness, the children then discussed what went well and what they could change before modifying or remaking their aeroplanes. It was fantastic to see so many children moving their markers further forward with each attempt!

Resourcefulness

Under the watchful eye of Ninja Nutmeg, the children were tasked with making a freestanding tower using only 10 sheets of paper and sellotape. It was brilliant to see the children's ingenuity as they experimented with different ideas and found creative ways to make the absolute most of their limited resources!

Reciprocity

For this challenge, the children focused on teamwork. Their task was to get from one side of the playground to the other using only four hula hoops, without touching the floor.

However, there was another catch... they weren't allowed to talk!

Using only body language, facial expressions and plenty of trial and error, they had to work together to ensure that every member of their team made it safely across the terrain. A fantastic test of communication, cooperation and reciprocity!

What an afternoon! The children were brilliant and the activities certainly highlighted just how important our Learning Powers are in everything that we do.

Before hometime, the children also had the chance to meet their buddies... WOOHOO!

The children sat together in the hall and watched one of my favourite programmes... Bluey! We watched the episode 'Keepy Uppy' before giving the children balloons so they could have a go at keeping them in the air with their buddies.

It was wonderful to see the children laughing, playing and enjoying each other's company. What a lovely way to finish such a busy afternoon!
