Bag a story!
What an amazing experience it was to create our own book bags!
Our big question this term was: How can we create a functional and creative book bag?
The children began by exploring different bags and discussing what makes them useful. They then designed their own book bags inspired by their favourite stories. We had lots of fun sharing ideas, sketching designs, and thinking carefully about the features our bags would need.
During the design process, the children created their own design criteria. This helped them think about what would make their bag both practical and creative. They considered things such as size, strength, decoration, and how the bag would hold a book safely.
Next came the exciting part - making the bags! The children practised different sewing techniques and stitches. After experimenting, they decided to use the backstitch because they discovered it was the strongest stitch and would make their bags durable.
The classroom was full of creativity and teamwork as the children carefully cut fabric, sewed their designs, and added decorations inspired by their favourite stories.
Once the bags were finished, the children evaluated their final products by comparing them with their design criteria. It was wonderful to hear their thoughtful discussions about their work and what they might improve next time.
We are incredibly proud of their creativity, perseverance, and sewing skills. The finished book bags were both functional and beautifully designed!
A huge thank you to parents that were available to come and support the children in their sewing. We could not have done it without you.
