Day One at the Castle - WHAT A DAY!
After a very smooth journey to St Briavels, including a pyramid competition at the service station, we arrived at the castle and the children were stunned! With the sun shining, they fell in love with the place the moment they arrived.
We enjoyed lunch basking in the glorious sunshine before heading off on a tour of the castle and its grounds. Afterwards, the children were able to settle into their rooms and make them feel homely. Room inspections were interesting, to say the least, and the children's idea of "making the bed" was certainly... creative!
The children were then split into two groups, with one taking part in an indoor picture orienteering challenge and the other completing an outdoor version. This was a brilliant way to help everyone find their way around and become familiar with their surroundings.
Next, we played some fun games of Zip, Zap, Boing and Wink Murder, which had everyone in fits of laughter. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying themselves so much and the sense of togetherness throughout the group was lovely.
Dinner was a real treat. The menu included chicken flatbreads with chips and salad or a hot jacket potato with a selection of delicious fillings. Dessert was a choice of gooey chocolate fudge cake with squirty cream or a refreshing choc ice.
Feeling well fuelled, we headed to the local park where the children had an absolute blast. From the zip line to the seesaws, swings and roundabout, it was fantastic to see them laughing, playing and looking after one another so well. Even the local residents commented on how polite and well behaved the Southill pupils were, which made us all incredibly proud.
Back at the castle, and ready to cool down behind its thick stone walls, the children made colourful signs for their bedroom doors. Some are enjoying a steamy shower, others are relaxing in the communal areas and a few chose to unwind in their rooms. Soon enough, I am sure we will hear the gentle snores radiating through the doors after what has been a busy but brilliant day.
I am immensely proud of the children today. They have been absolutely fantastic from start to finish and have represented Southill brilliantly. I cannot wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings!
