Great Fire of London Day!

What a day!

We have had such an amazing day. We were lucky enough to welcome a time traveller into our classroom for the day - Jayne from 1666! She was Samuel Pepys' maid and taught us all about what it was like to live in 1666 and through the Great Fire. She bought along lots of artifacts which we could all touch and examine. We even had a 'chamber pot' and now know what people used to do with the contents! Yuck!

In the morning we each made a pomander. These are scented bags of dried rice, used to keep out the rather nasty smells which would have been loitering about! We had five different scents to choose from, so everyone's is sightly different.

After lunch, Jayne helped us re-design London with much safer buildings. We then learned about fire marks and why they were used. We all had a go at making our own - they will be coming home soon, once they are dry.

The children all had a fantastic day of fully immersive learning and engaged with it brilliantly. There were loads of laughs, a few looks of utter disgust, but mainly lots of fun. The children's behaviour was great, with beautiful manners and plenty of enthusiasm!

Well done Y2 and a huge thank you to Jayne! We hope you made it back to 1666 safely!
