Hoot Hoot! We’re Exploring Owl Babies

What a wonderful book we have started this week - Owl Babies! What a classic! 📚🦉

We have been following the story of three little owls, Percy, Sarah and Bill and their owl mother. One evening, Mother Owl leaves the nest, but the three babies aren’t quite sure where she has gone.

Percy and Sarah remain hopeful that their mummy will return, while little Bill becomes very worried, repeatedly saying, “I want my mummy!” 

To really bring the story to life, we decided we needed to get into role! Each child had their very own owl mask and we used these to act out different parts of the story. Some children enjoyed becoming worried little Bill, some took on the roles of Percy and Sarah, offering reassurance and support, while others became Mother Owl, returning to the nest and reassuring her babies that there was never anything to worry about. 

It was wonderful to see the children using their imagination, expressing the different emotions of the characters and thinking about how the owls might have been feeling at different points in the story.

Owl Babies has been such a lovely book to explore so far and we are already looking forward to discovering what other adventures, activities and learning opportunities it will bring us!
