What an Amazing Week in Reception!

What a week of excitement, problem-solving and creativity we have had in Reception!

We had a bit of a disaster at the start of the week… we discovered a broken invention! It was a phone, and it definitely wasn’t working properly — there was even foam bubbling out of it! Luckily, we had just met a very special character in our new book called Izzy. Izzy loves creating, fixing and mending inventions, so we decided to try out some of her unusual repair tactics!

The children loved having a go at “kicking it and calling it a twit” (just like Izzy!) and then we got serious and used our very own tool bag to help us. The children showed fantastic imagination and problem-solving skills as they thought carefully about which tools would be best for repairing the phone and how each one could be used. After lots of teamwork, perseverance and brilliant ideas… success! Our phone was fixed and working again!

In Maths this week, we have been exploring patterns. The children have been creating their own repeating patterns using two or three colours, objects and shapes. They have shown great creativity and have been able to explain the patterns they have made — fantastic mathematical thinking!

We are also incredibly proud of the children’s handwriting. Their letter formation has been exceptional, and it has been wonderful to see how much care and pride they are taking in their writing. The effort and progress they are making is amazing!

On Thursday, we had a very exciting moment as we watched the England football highlights together and cheered on the winning team in true English style! The children loved celebrating together and sharing the excitement.
