Leaf Buddies and Our Library Adventure! 🍂📚
What a wonderful and exciting week we have had in Reception! We have been busy creating, exploring and learning together, making special memories along the way.
🍁 Creating Our Amazing Leaf Buddies
This week, we worked alongside our buddies to create some amazing leaf buddies! Using beautiful autumn leaves, we let our imaginations run wild as we added hair, eyes and other facial features to bring our creations to life.
The children took great pride in their work, carefully choosing their leaves and thinking about how to add different features to make each buddy unique. It was lovely to see everyone sharing ideas, helping one another and working collaboratively to create such wonderful characters.
This activity gave us the opportunity to explore the natural world, develop our creativity and strengthen our fine motor skills. Most importantly, we enjoyed spending time with our buddies, learning from one another and celebrating each other's ideas. We were so proud of our finished leaf buddies!
📚 Our First Trip to Weymouth Library!
Another highlight of our week was our very first trip out to Weymouth Library! The excitement began before we had even arrived, as we set off together on the coach. The children described the journey as feeling like being on a rollercoaster — what an exhilarating start to our adventure!
Once we arrived at the library, we were warmly welcomed by two wonderful librarians who helped us navigate the library and discover how it is organised. We learnt about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books and explored how to choose books that interest us.
The children discovered that fiction books tell stories, often featuring imaginary characters and adventures, while non-fiction books help us find out facts and learn about the real world. We also began to understand how a library works and how we can explore the wonderful range of books available to us.
It was fantastic to see the children showing curiosity, listening carefully and engaging so enthusiastically with this new experience. A huge thank you to the two librarians for making our visit so enjoyable and helping us feel confident exploring the library.
We were particularly proud to receive such lovely feedback from the library staff, who praised the Reception children for being impeccable throughout our visit. What a wonderful achievement! The children represented our school beautifully, demonstrating excellent behaviour, lovely manners and a fantastic attitude to learning.
🌟 Learning Beyond the Classroom
Both experiences have provided valuable opportunities for learning beyond our usual classroom environment. From working together creatively with our buddies to exploring books and discovering a new place in our local community, the children have continued to develop their confidence, communication skills, independence and curiosity.
These experiences support many areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), particularly Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Physical Development and Understanding the World.
Well done, Reception! We are incredibly proud of you all and look forward to sharing more of our adventures next week. 💛
