Maths, writing and habitats!

A Week of Creativity and Learning in Reception

This week in Reception, the children have been fully immersed in creating wonderful habitats for their very special pet rocks! Their imagination, language and ideas have been absolutely phenomenal. We have loved listening to the children explain what their pets need to stay happy, safe and cosy in their new homes.

The children carefully selected different materials to build their habitats, including seaweed, sand, water and grass. Some habitats were designed as beach homes, while others became leafy gardens or underwater worlds. It has been fantastic to see the children using such thoughtful vocabulary and showing great care as they designed and created their habitats.

In Maths, we have been exploring 2D shapes and learning how shapes can be rotated to make exciting pictures and patterns. The children enjoyed experimenting with turning and moving shapes to create their own unique designs.

We have also continued consolidating our phonics learning by practising writing whole sentences independently. The children are becoming increasingly confident at using their phonics knowledge to spell words and write clearly. Alongside this, we have been practising our number formation, which is looking absolutely tip top!

Well done, Reception, for another fantastic week full of creativity, teamwork and brilliant learning!
