My shadow is......

Wow – what an amazing first few days back we have had!

The children have returned full of enthusiasm and curiosity, and we have jumped straight into some exciting learning. One of our favourite activities has been searching for our shadows. We explored how shadows are made and had lots of fun spotting them both indoors and outside.

We didn’t stop there! We used our imaginations to think about what our shadows might be like if they came to life. What colours would they be? Would they be bright and cheerful, or dark and mysterious? What would they enjoy doing? The children came up with some wonderfully creative ideas, from playful dancing shadows to adventurous ones that love to explore.

This sparked some fantastic writing. The children worked incredibly hard, using their phonics knowledge to help them sound out words and build their sentences. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they begin to write more independently.

We have also been busy continuing our theme from last half term on plants and gardening. The children have loved role playing in our garden centre, where we had some very helpful staff and a beautiful selection of flowers! It has been lovely to see the children taking on different roles and using their imaginations so creatively.

Our Reception children have been working hard in maths too, making different arrangements of five using cubes. They have also been enjoying one of their favourite games – playing teachers – which always brings lots of smiles and laughter!

In our role play area, some children have been taking excellent care of their pets. Morgan showed wonderful thoughtfulness by giving his axolotl a water bed, knowing that it needs water to live. What a great example of caring and understanding!

We are so proud of the effort, creativity and kindness shown already – what a brilliant start to the term!
