Part-Whole Models? Piece of Cake!
Dun, dun, dun… the time has come for Year 1 to move on to addition and subtraction! And what a fantastic start we’ve had!
Today, we introduced part-whole models and the children took it all in their stride. We began by exploring what a part-whole model is and carefully labelling each circle so we understood what each bit represented.
Once we had got to grips with the model, we moved on to putting numbers into the parts. The children showed great enthusiasm and were brilliant at applying their new learning!
But we didn’t stop there… oh no! I decided to challenge them even further by asking them to work out the whole by adding together the parts. And guess what? They absolutely smashed it!
It was wonderful to see the children thinking carefully, making connections and growing in confidence with their mathematical understanding. They approached the challenge with such positivity and I was incredibly proud of every single one of them.
What a brilliant first step into our new learning journey with addition and subtraction! I can’t wait to see what these little mathematicians achieve next.
