Poetry, Passion and a Perfect Performance
This morning, Year 5 stepped into the salty sea air and made their way not to Southill Primary, but back to Weymouth Pavilion for their third performance. After two Shakespeare productions, it was time for poetry, and excitement was high as we watched these seasoned performers take to the stage once more.
On World Book Day, we were lucky to welcome published poet and rapper Alex Wharton, who shared that his favourite poet is Benjamin Zephaniah. Inspired by this, we chose one of Zephaniah’s poems and from the very first reading, we knew it was the perfect fit.
What followed was truly unforgettable. The children performed with incredible expression, passion and unity. Their energy filled the room and their confidence shone through every line. It may not have been a competition, but if any school deserved a mic drop moment, it would be The Mighty SPS.
I could not be prouder of what they achieved.
A huge thank you to Mr Frampton, who cycled to the pavilion to capture photos of the performance. Unfortunately, we were told that they no longer film the performances at the venue, but we will do our best to record the performance back at school and share it on the website in case you couldn't make it or wish to rewatch the children doing what they do best.
Thank you also to Lucy and Sophie for helping supervise the children, and to Carmel, Danielle and Hannah for kindly walking back with us to ensure everyone returned safely. We even managed a quick photo on the beach, although there was sadly no time for fish and chips.
We hope you enjoyed the performance as much as we did!
