Runner beans, sunflowers and strawberries!

Our Outdoor Learning Adventures
We have been very busy in Reception enjoying our outdoor learning!
We have continued to take great care of the plants that we planted back in the Spring term. Our runner beans, sunflowers and strawberries (which we planted for the birds and other creatures to enjoy) are thriving. We have taken turns to water the plants and have carefully watched them grow. We noticed that our runner beans needed some support, so we asked our caretaker to help by putting in some sticks for them to climb up. We are excited to see how tall they will grow!
We have also been using natural resources to inspire our creativity. The children have enjoyed making pictures using shells, conkers, pine cones and sticks. It has been wonderful to see the different ideas and designs they have created.
Our outdoor area has inspired lots of imaginative play too. Atreus amazed us by creating a tornado in the sand using his hands and lots of careful movements. We enjoyed watching his creation take shape and talking about how tornadoes move.
Some of the children have made their own fancy binoculars, which have been very useful for spotting wildlife when we are outside. We have been looking carefully for birds, insects and other creatures that share our outdoor space.
In Literacy, we have been working together to rewrite a story based on Hairy Maclary. We decided to make our version a little different! Instead of one cat and six dogs, our story features six cats and one dog. The children came up with lots of fantastic ideas and have enjoyed creating their own characters and story events.
We are so proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork the children have shown this term. Well done, Reception!
