Year 4 Science experiment 1

Over the past week, we carried out a very exciting science experiment to discover what different drinks might do to our teeth. We used eggs because eggshells are similar to the protective enamel on our teeth. We placed eggs into Coke, orange squash, milk and water and waited to see what would happen!

The milk was, in the children’s words, “disgusting!” 🤢 But a few brave scientists were willing to get stuck in and pull the egg out to investigate!

Here’s what we discovered:

🥤 Coke – stained the eggshell and changed its colour.
🍊 Orange squash – caused parts of the eggshell to peel away.
🥛 Milk – slowly made the eggshell peel too.
💧 Water – had no effect on the eggshell at all!

After lots of observing, discussing and investigating, we came to an important conclusion…

✨ The best drink to help keep our teeth healthy waaaassssss… WATER OF COURSE!

We had lots of fun being scientists and learning how the things we drink can affect our teeth. Great work, little investigators! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬
