Shading, Sketching and Collaboration🗻

This half term, Year 1 have been busy exploring drawing and developing their artistic skills. We have been practising different shading techniques and learning how the pressure we apply to our pencils can change the appearance of our drawings. The children discovered that pressing their pencils harder creates darker lines, while using a lighter touch produces much softer, lighter shades. They enjoyed experimenting with these techniques and seeing the different effects they could create.

We have also been learning about the artist Christa Rijneveld. The children explored her beautiful mountain artwork and noticed how she uses a variety of lines to create texture, shape and detail. Inspired by her work, we had a go at recreating our own mountain pictures using lots of different types of lines and patterns.

As part of our creative journey, we created artwork using just one colour before developing our pieces further through collage. The children carefully selected and layered materials in the same colour family to add interest and texture to their work.

We then worked collaboratively with a partner to create a shared piece of artwork. Using two different colours, the children explored pattern-making and combined their ideas to produce vibrant and imaginative designs.

Despite experiencing an extremely hot week, Year 1 have shown fantastic resilience and have coped brilliantly with the heat. They have continued to work hard, stay positive and enjoy their learning throughout the week☀️.
