Wb 3/7/26- Headteacher's Blog – Celebrating Our Amazing School Community
I sit here now at my desk, soaking wet, after an hour in the 'soak the teacher' stall, reflecting on my choice of activities to help with during the FOSS Summer Extravaganza!
Being part of Southill this week has really made me reflect on how wonderful this school community is. Standing among and chatting with parents who were watching their children with pride at sports days was fantastic. Seeing the incredible work that our wonderful FOSS team put in to make our summer fair as special as it was filled me with gratitude. We are very lucky indeed.
As we head into the weekend, I wanted to share some of the incredible learning experiences and achievements that have made this week so special.
Sports Week 2026 – A Week to Remember
One of my favourite weeks of the year has come to an end and it truly lived up to expectations! Sports Week 2026 has been fantastic, with children across the school showing tremendous enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship. The energy and excitement throughout the week has been infectious, and it's been wonderful to see every child participating with such positivity.
A huge thank you to all the parents, friends and grandparents for your support; to the staff for ensuring the event ran so smoothly; and a big thank you to Tom for organising such a fantastic few days! Check out his blog and video of the events – you won't be disappointed!

Another Exciting Week Ahead!
If you thought this week was busy, next week promises to be even more action-packed! Here's what's happening:
Year 6 Secondary Transition – Our Year 6 pupils will be spending two days at their secondary schools, getting a taste of life as a secondary student. This is such an important step in preparing them for their next adventure, and I know they'll represent Southill brilliantly.
Moving Up Morning and Afternoon – All children at Southill will have the opportunity to spend a morning and an afternoon in their new classes for September. This is a wonderful chance for them to meet their new teachers, explore their new classrooms and start building excitement for the year ahead.
Year 4 Trip to WOEC – Year 4 are heading to Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre for a day of amazing activities! This promises to be a fantastic outdoor learning experience that will challenge and inspire our children.
Year 5 Residential to St Briavels – To top it all off, Year 5 are off to St Briavels Castle for four days! This residential trip is always a highlight of the year, packed with adventure, team-building and memories that will last a lifetime.
Hot Weather Reminder
With the forecast showing hot weather for next week, please ensure your child comes to school prepared:
- Named water bottle – Children should bring a full water bottle to school each day (we have refill stations available)
- Sun hat – A named sun hat is essential for outdoor play and activities
- Sun cream – Please apply long-lasting sun cream before school. If your child needs to reapply during the day, they should bring their own clearly labelled bottle
We'll be ensuring children have regular access to shade and water throughout the day and will be adjusting our outdoor activity times where necessary to keep everyone safe and comfortable.
As we close another wonderful week at Southill Primary, I'm filled with pride at what our children have achieved and experienced. Thank you to all our staff for their dedication in creating these rich learning opportunities and to our families for your continued support.
Have an amazing weekend!
Matt
