We are Water Protectors!

Since we came back to school after half term, we have been using the book We are the Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom to support our writing.

This book focuses on Indigenous-led movements to protect water from oil pipelines. The story is told from the perspective of a young Native girl who learns from her elders that water is sacred and must be protected because “water is life.”

Today we have been writing speeches inspired by the main character. Our speeches aimed to inspire others, encouraging them to stand with us in stopping the oil!

In the story the community come together, banging their drums and holding their signs as part of a peaceful protest. So, today, we took our speeches and our drums outside and practised using them together.

This was actually really tricky - but we were very resilient. We had so much fun bringing our learning to life, even if it was quite windy and our speeches kept getting blown away.

A great writing lesson today Year 2, well done!

...Enjoy!!!
