Welcome… To Jurassic Park
This week in Book Talk, the classroom was filled with excitement, suspense and just a little bit of danger as we began exploring the thrilling novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
From the very first page, the children were completely hooked. We read a heart-pounding chapter where disaster struck as the power suddenly failed across the park. Two land cruisers ground to a halt, leaving their passengers stranded in the middle of the island. Then came the moment that had everyone on the edge of their seats. With the electricity down, the fences stopped working… and the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex broke free.
Gasps filled the room as the tension built and the danger crept closer. The children absolutely loved the drama and excitement, many amazed to discover that this incredible story is one they can pick up and read themselves. Dinosaurs, daring escapes and unforgettable moments… what is there not to love?
Inspired by the action-packed chapter, the children then took on a creative challenge of their own. They became advertisers for Jurassic Park, crafting persuasive pieces to convince others to visit the island. Their writing was full of energy and imagination. Rhetorical questions drew the reader in, powerful descriptions painted vivid pictures and clever language made the park sound both thrilling and irresistible.
Would you dare to visit? Could you handle the adventure? Their words certainly made it tempting.
The classroom buzzed with enthusiasm as ideas came to life on the page. Every child worked incredibly hard and took great pride in their finished adverts. It was wonderful to see such creativity and confidence shining through in their writing.
A truly roarsome week of reading and writing.
