Y4: Brilliant Ball Skills!
Year 4 were on the move in PE this week as we continued developing our ball skills, with a particular focus on dribbling with both our hands and our feet.
We started by working with partners, moving around the playground and sending the ball accurately through different gates. The children quickly discovered that whether we were using our hands or our feet, lots of the same skills were important: keeping the ball under control, looking towards our target and making sure our partner was ready to receive it.
Next, we put our dribbling skills to the test! We practised using both sides of our bodies, changing direction and keeping the ball close as we moved forwards, backwards and sideways. We even tried some ‘penguin’ touches with our feet, gently moving the ball from one foot to the other.
Things became trickier when we worked with a partner and had to dribble, watch someone else and react at the same time. This really challenged us to keep our heads up rather than watching the ball constantly!
It was brilliant to see Year 4 showing such control, perseverance and teamwork throughout the lesson. Most importantly, we discovered that many of the skills needed to dribble successfully are the same whether the ball is at our hands or our feet.
Well done, Year 4!
