Y4: Durnovaria!
On Tuesday, Year 4 headed off on a day trip to Dorchester to learn all about the Romans and their settlements in the town, which they called Durnovaria!
We started our day at Dorset Museum, where we had a good look around the People's Dorset exhibition. There were lots of fascinating displays featuring ancient Roman artefacts, all of which had been discovered right here in Dorset! We then headed into the museum's learning space, where the children enjoyed dressing up in Roman clothing, having a go at archaeological digs and getting a closer look at even more fascinating artefacts.
After lunch, Emma from the museum took us on a guided tour of the Roman Town House, where we learnt all about how a wealthy Roman family would have lived. Not only did they have lots of spacious rooms, but they also enjoyed beautiful mosaic floors and even underfloor heating! The Romans were certainly ahead of their time!
Throughout the whole day, Year 4 were absolutely brilliant. They behaved sensibly, asked lots of thoughtful questions and showed real curiosity about everything they saw. Most importantly, they had loads of fun learning!
Well done, Year 4! What a fantastic day!
