Y6: A Visit from Mini Professors - All About Evolution!
What a fantastic afternoon Year 6 had this week as we kicked off our new science unit on Evolution and Adaptation with a brilliant visit from Professor Lee at Mini Professors!
The children explored how living things gradually change and adapt over time through a range of fun, hands-on activities. With props, dressing up and even games of Chinese whispers, pupils learned how tiny changes can be passed on through generations and how, completely accidentally but brilliantly, life adapts to survive.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was a very competitive game of “Which Beak is Best?” Pupils tested different “beaks” to collect food and quickly discovered how certain adaptations can give animals an advantage in their environment. There was lots of excitement, teamwork and scientific thinking as they compared which mutations helped birds survive most successfully.
I was so impressed with the enthusiasm and curiosity shown throughout the workshop. The class threw themselves into every activity and asked some really thoughtful scientific questions along the way.
This was also Year 6’s final visit from Professor Lee, which made the afternoon feel extra special. A huge thank you to Mini Professors for helping make science so engaging, memorable and fun over the years.
Well done, Year 6!
