Y6: St Ives Day 2
Yesterday was a very long and tiring day for Year 6, so when we planned the itinerary, we thought it would be perfect to follow it with a relaxing and cultured art day. What a lovely day it has been! This class truly is a class of great culture.
Throughout the Tate and Hepworth exhibitions, all the pupils were engaged, inquisitive and respectful of their surroundings. After soaking up the wonderful visuals of the morning, we all returned to the hostel and made sandwiches for lunch.
The Leach Pottery tile-making workshop was excellent. Neil, our instructor for the afternoon, provided an enlightening talk about the history of the pottery. He then led a brilliant tile-painting workshop using proper glazes from the pottery. The entire class worked with great focus to produce some careful and intricate designs. Their tiles are currently waiting to be fired in the kiln (at 1260°C – the same temperature as lava!) before being sent back to Southill, once they have cooled down, of course.
Having mentioned a relaxing day, we couldn't let it be entirely relaxing. Next up: the Blue Thunder Rib Ride! Wowee. The children absolutely loved it. We also saw some seals at Seal Island! I got some great GoPro footage of the first group who were with me, and I'll put together an edit of that soon.
In the meantime, here are some photos from the day. The children are now settled in bed... let's hope for another good night's sleep!
