Year 2 Farm
Farm Trip
WOW! What a busy day we have had on our school trip.
We were all very excited to get onto the coach this morning and head off to Travellers Rest Farm. When we arrived we were greeted by Penny and Farmer George who showed us around the farm on a tractor and tailer! During the farm tour we made several stops - at the grain store where we learnt about the different grain that they grow and what it can be made into, at the cow field where we saw cows and their calves then over to the very hungry sheep... who it turns out, absolutely love to eat toast!!
After visiting the livestock we travelled to the next part of the farm to learn about some of the trees that grow in the coppice and the crops that are growing in the fields. George taught us about the crops that can be harvested and some of the wild flowers that are grown throughout the winter as food and protection for the birds.
After a busy morning we headed back to the kitchen classroom for lunch.
Throughout the afternoon we were based in the kitchen classroom. George showed us how we can mill the grain to make bread and how the rapeseed oil is made by crushing the seeds. We then rotated around 3 different activities
- bread making
- soup making
- sorting food types between grown locally and grown around the world
The children worked really respectfully in their groups and loved chopping up the vegetables with their knives and choppers.
Whilst we waiting for our soup and bread to cook we took a quick tour to the chickens. What fun!!!!
We hope that you love the photos, we had a great time.
