October Half Term Home Learning

Thank you for your support with home learning activities so far this term.

Below are some activities for you to try at home over half term. Practising these skills will make a big difference to your child’s learning and their confidence with their reading, writing and maths.

Read at home daily – extra books have been sent home. You do not need to read the whole book in one day. Little and often is best. Focus on asking your child questions about the book. For example, why do you think the title is ‘How to be a good farmer’? What do you think the book will be about? What would a ‘bad’ farmer do differently to a good farmer? etc. Questions about what has happened, why specific words have been chosen and linking what is happening in the book to their own lives will also really help with comprehension.

Writing – practising sounding out words. Your child has bought home a sound mat to use. You could ask them to help you write a shopping list, or maybe a short letter for a friend. Focus on letter formation and how to write capital letters, we have been practising this in class recently as lots of us are finding it tricky.

Maths – use the 100 square sent home to practising finding, reading and writing numbers to 100. If your child is confident with this, use the 100 square to find one more and one less than a given number by jumping backwards or forwards one space. Pay extra attention to the ‘teen’ or ‘tee’ numbers. Such and 16 and 60. These quite often get muddled up. We have been look at how all of the ‘teen’ numbers are in one row on our 100 square.

Thanks again for your support.
